Job description
SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Birkenhead (CH43)
Start Date: 23rd February 2026
Agency: Teaching Personnel
Contract: Full-time, Terim-time
Pay rate: £13.75 to £15 per hour.
About the Role
Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 behaviour support for a Year 3 pupil. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on a child’s educational journey while also developing new skills to enhance their professional portfolio.
About the School
- Rated “Good” by Ofsted in the most recent full inspection, demonstrating strong teaching and leadership — a supportive environment for 1:1 work.
- Supporting pupils in a mixed‑gender, inclusive mainstream setting, with no specific religious character and a welcoming community ethos.
- No specialist SEN unit or resourced provision, but supports pupils with SEND within mainstream classes.
- Engagement with parents through Ofsted’s Parent View platform, reinforcing a culture of openness and partnership.
- Strong community relationships, including wraparound care offered locally through Before and After School Club.
About the Role:
- Provide warm, patient and dedicated 1:1 behaviour support to a lovely Year 3 pupil, helping them feel understood, supported and safe as they grow emotionally and academically.
- Work hand‑in‑hand with the SENCO, supportive parents, and external professionals to create consistency, celebrate progress, and ensure the child receives the very best tailored support.
- Gently encourage positive interactions, confidence‑building moments and social development, helping the pupil feel included, valued and proud of their achievements.
- Support the class teacher by adapting activities, offering reassurance and bringing creativity to lessons so the child can engage at their own pace.
- Collaborate with a caring team of colleagues who believe in holistic development, inclusion and celebrating every small success along the way.
What are we looking for:
- Experience in similar roles such as support work with children.
- Experience of supporting children with additional needs.
- An understanding, patient and child-focused approach.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service.
- Minimum Qualification of GSCE C grade or equivalent.
Benefits of Teaching Personnel:
- Competitive pay paid weekly.
- Access to exclusive and accredited CPD courses and training.
- Dedicated and friendly internal consultant on hand to provide support.
- Opportunity for longer term roles and potential permanent placements.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
