Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support Assistant – SEMH Focus

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a skilled and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support Assistant, with a focus on Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), to join a well-regarded primary school in Toxteth (L8). This long-term position is due to begin in March and will run for two terms.

The school is seeking a dedicated and reliable member of support staff to work on a one-to-one basis with a reception pupil who has recently joined the school and requires both academic and social support.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children with SEN and a solid understanding of effective de‑escalation strategies. The child follows an individualised education plan designed to meet their SEMH needs, so prior experience in monitoring progress and providing regular written updates is highly valued.

This role runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm and offers the opportunity to become part of a highly respected school community. The school has a strong Ofsted rating and has been consistently oversubscribed for several years. It prides itself on excellent pupil behaviour and seeks staff who share its commitment to maintaining high standards.

The successful candidate will receive ongoing guidance from the school’s SENCO, who will provide additional training and professional development to ensure the best possible support for the child. The school welcomes applicants from a range of backgrounds, including those with experience in care and support roles, nursery settings, and mainstream education.
