Job description
SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Birkenhead (CH41)
Start Date: February 2026
Agency: Teaching Personnel
Contract: Full-time, Terim-time
Pay rate: £13.75 to £15 per hour.
About the Role
Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 behaviour support for a reception pupil. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on a child’s educational journey while also developing new skills to enhance their professional portfolio.
About the School
- A welcoming, faith‑filled primary school in the heart of Birkenhead, where kindness, community and togetherness shine every day.
- A loving Roman Catholic school supporting children aged 2–11, nurturing their curiosity, confidence and sense of belonging.
- A vibrant, lively community of around 400 happy pupils, filling the halls with laughter, friendship and enthusiasm for learning.
- Offers Nursery provision, helping even the youngest children feel at home from the moment they arrive.
- Rated Good by Ofsted in its most recent inspection — reflecting the school’s caring atmosphere, positive behaviour, and commitment to every child’s development.
- Proud of its inclusive, supportive ethos, welcoming children from diverse backgrounds and celebrating what makes each child unique.
- A school with real heart, offering strong pastoral care and supporting families — including a significant number of pupils eligible for free school meals (40%), emphasising the school’s commitment to compassion and equity.
About the Role:
- Provide warm, patient and dedicated 1:1 behaviour support to a lovely Year 2 pupil, helping them feel understood, supported and safe as they grow emotionally and academically.
- Work hand‑in‑hand with the SENCO, supportive parents, and external professionals to create consistency, celebrate progress, and ensure the child receives the very best tailored support.
- Gently encourage positive interactions, confidence‑building moments and social development, helping the pupil feel included, valued and proud of their achievements.
- Support the class teacher by adapting activities, offering reassurance and bringing creativity to lessons so the child can engage at their own pace.
- Collaborate with a caring team of colleagues who believe in holistic development, inclusion and celebrating every small success along the way.
What are we looking for:
- Experience in similar roles such as support work with children.
- Experience of supporting children with additional needs.

- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
- Minimum Qualification of GSCE C grade or Equivalent.

- Competitive pay paid weekly.
