Teaching Personnel – SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Huyton, Merseyside
Start Date: October 2025
Schedule: Full-Time
Contract Type: Temp-to-perm opportunities available

Pay Rate: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour (depending on experience)

 

A supportive and inclusive primary school in Huyton is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from October 2025. The role involves working 1:1 with a pupil who has Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), provide individualised support and ensure they have full access to the curriculum.

Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, consistent, and positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, respected, and ready to learn.

About the Role:

  • Full-time, long-term role starting October 2025
  • 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND in a mainstream classroom setting
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement EHCP targets
  • Supporting learning in core subjects and helping with routine and transitions
  • Encouraging independence and promoting emotional regulation
  • Assisting with personal care (if required) and ensuring pupil safety and wellbeing

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (required prior to starting)
  • Prior experience supporting children with SEND (e.g. ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs, or developmental delays)
  • A caring, patient, and adaptable approach to learning support
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build trust and establish positive relationships with pupils
  • A commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all learners
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
