Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Huyton, L36

Start Date: October 2025

Contract: Full-time

Duration: Temporary (potential for permanent)

Pay Rate: £13.75 - £14.50 per day (depending on experience)

 

We are currently working with a welcoming and supportive school in the Huyton area that is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from October. With a strong emphasis on pastoral care and personalised learning, the school is committed to supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, enabling them to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support within the classroom. You will help to create a safe, structured and encouraging environment, providing tailored interventions, 1:1 support, and small group work where necessary. This role requires patience, empathy and resilience, with a focus on building positive relationships and promoting pupils’ self-confidence and independence.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs (school-based or transferable experience).
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour effectively.
  • A nurturing and empathetic approach to supporting pupils.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE, NVQ, Psychology/Child Development degree) is desirable but not essential.
