SEND Teaching Assistant – Full Time - Newton Abbot, Devon

Start Date: January 2026 (or sooner if possible)
Contract: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent
Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday - early finish on Fridays!
Pay: £90 – £100 per day (depending on experience)

About the School

Our partner school provides a nurturing and inclusive environment for secondary students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and social, emotional, and mental health needs. The curriculum combines academic learning with life skills, outdoor education, and community engagement — ensuring each student receives a personalised, well-rounded education.

Your Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored learning and provide 1:1 and small-group support. Being Team Teach trained is desirable but not essential. You’ll help students build confidence, communication, and independence through positive and engaging learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with Autism and other additional learning needs
  • Assist with implementing personalised education and behaviour plans
  • Encourage engagement, participation, and independence
  • Create a calm and positive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with staff and parents to support each child’s progress

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND
  • Experience in education, care, or youth work (advantageous but not essential)
  • Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills
  • Proactive and resilient attitude
  • Team Teach trained is desirable
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
