SEND & SEMH Education Opportunities
Job description
SEND & SEMH Education Opportunities | East Sussex | Teachers & Support Staff
Good SEND educators don't all have the same background. They do tend to share the same qualities.
Patience. Consistency. Resilience. A sense of humour. And the ability to build a relationship with a young person even when that young person isn't making it particularly easy.
I'm currently recruiting for a range of SEND and SEMH opportunities across East Sussex, working with specialist schools that need good educators for the new academic year.
Some are looking for experienced SEND professionals. Others are absolutely open to people coming from mainstream education, care, youth work, coaching or mentoring who have the right transferable skills.
So whether you've spent years working in specialist education or you're considering SEND for the first time, I'd be interested in speaking with you.
Roles I'm Recruiting For
Opportunities across my schools include:
- SEND & SEMH Teachers
- Teaching Assistants
- Learning Support Assistants
- Behaviour & Engagement Mentors
- 1:1 Support
- Pastoral & Intervention Staff
- Day-to-day and flexible cover
- Long-term and ongoing placements
I work across primary and secondary specialist settings throughout East Sussex, so the aim is to find an environment that suits you rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
What Makes Someone Good at SEND?
Experience helps, but I've worked in SEND myself and know that a long CV doesn't automatically make somebody brilliant at the job.
The educators who tend to thrive are those who can:
- Build trust without forcing it
- Stay calm when a young person is struggling
- Be warm and approachable whilst maintaining clear boundaries
- Adapt when Plan A isn't working
- Understand that behaviour often communicates an unmet need
- Notice and celebrate progress that other people might overlook
- Turn up consistently and be someone pupils can rely on
SEND can be challenging. There's no point pretending otherwise.
But with the right school, team and mindset, it can also be one of the most rewarding areas of education to work in.
A Bit About How I Work
Before becoming a Recruitment Consultant, I spent several years working directly within SEND education.
It's a big part of why I enjoy recruiting within this area now.
I understand that specialist schools can be very different from one another, so I'll take the time to understand your experience, what you're comfortable with and what you're actually looking for before discussing suitable settings with you.

- Teaching Assistant / LSA roles paid at £92.60 per day
