We are looking to recruit a SEN teaching assistant to work at a school in Penzance. You will be working on a 1-1 basis with the student within the classroom though there may be times you are required to create outdoor learning activities to help keep the student engaged and make their learning as interesting as possible. You will be required to work full time, Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 3.30pm during term time.
We are looking for somebody who has experience of working with SEN needs and be able to build relationships quickly to ensure a strong level of trust is built between you and the student quickly. This will help you to work effectively with them and to help them make the most out of their learning opportunities. You will need to have good communication skills and be patient when communicating and explaining tasks to give the student time to process what they are being asked to do.
The class teacher will plan the students work but as you will be working closely with the student you will be responsible for helping them plan their work and their daily structure. This allows you to plan around what you have been doing with the student and be flexible around them. The student is taught within the classroom and is involved in class activities as much as possible. There may be times where you will need to do separate learning activities with the student to fit their specific needs. If the classroom is a too noisy or if the student is having a bad day this will be facilitated as the student has their own separate learning area which you can take them to.
You will be responsible for helping to build the students confidence and to help them to get involved with other students within the classroom. You will need to be creative in doing this by making up group games and activities to help the student get involved with others. Organisational and time management skills are very important in this role as you will need to be reliable so you can build trust with the student.
The ideal candidate will be aware of Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning and Equal Opportunities policies. You will also need a Child Workforce DBS which can be completed during the recruitment process.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
