Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time position in Cranborne, Dorset, starting October 2026, with the potential to start earlier.

This is an opportunity to join a specialist educational environment supporting young people with additional and complex needs. We need someone who is already confident working within SEND and can hit the ground running, quickly understanding individual pupils and becoming a dependable part of the wider team.

A Typical Day

No two days will be exactly the same. You will work alongside teaching staff to provide targeted support and help young people access both their learning and the wider school day.

• Supporting students individually and in small groups
• Adapting tasks and resources around different learning needs
• Encouraging participation, motivation and positive engagement
• Helping young people develop greater independence and confidence
• Supporting emotional regulation using appropriate strategies
• Responding professionally when pupils become anxious, overwhelmed or disengaged
• Sharing observations with teachers and contributing to consistent support plans

Who Would Suit This Position?

We are looking for candidates with previous, hands-on experience supporting SEND. This may have been gained within a special school, specialist college, alternative provision or another relevant education environment.

You should be comfortable adapting how you communicate and provide support depending on the young person in front of you. Being calm, proactive and resilient is important, alongside the ability to establish positive relationships without losing professional boundaries.

A sound understanding of safeguarding and the confidence to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals are essential.
