Job description

1:1 Teaching Assistant – Year 2 – Full Time – September Start

A friendly and well-regarded primary school is looking to appoint an experienced Teaching Assistant to support a child on a 1:1 basis in a Year 2 class from September. This is a full-time role and would suit someone who is confident working closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning and the classroom environment.

You will work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to provide consistent, tailored support throughout the school day. The role will involve helping the pupil stay engaged with lessons, adapting activities where needed, and supporting their social and emotional development. There may be elements of behaviour support, so a calm, patient and proactive approach is essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to build a strong, positive relationship with the pupil, while also maintaining clear boundaries and encouraging independence over time. Experience supporting children with additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties would be beneficial.

This role is offered through Teaching Personnel, with the opportunity to move onto a direct contract with the school in the future.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 2
  • Work closely with the class teacher to adapt and deliver learning activities
  • Support the pupil’s focus, behaviour, and emotional regulation
  • Encourage social interaction and independence
  • Track progress and provide feedback to staff

What the school is looking for:

  • Previous experience in a 1:1 or SEN support role
  • A confident and calm approach to behaviour management
  • Someone reliable, patient, and able to build trust with pupils
  • A team player who communicates well with staff and parents

This is a rewarding role in a supportive school where staff work closely together to ensure all pupils are given the best chance to succeed. Ideal for someone looking for a long-term position where they can make a real impact.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
