Location: BH12, Poole
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only

About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary schools in the BH12 area. This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 support for a pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who presents with complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the child’s individual EHCP targets
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Implement strategies to support ASD and SEMH needs, including sensory and behavioural approaches
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals to deliver a personalised learning experience
  • Support the child’s academic, social, and emotional development
  • Assist with behaviour management, using de-escalation techniques where required
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the pupil’s needs
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and reports

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD and SEMH
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong behaviour management skills and emotional resilience
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • A proactive and flexible attitude
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes and targeted interventions (desirable)
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
