Job description

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (RIG Unit – Primary School)

Location: Bournemouth - BH10
Start Date: After May Half Term
Contract: Full-Time, Until End of Academic Year (with potential to extend)

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our welcoming mainstream primary schools, working within a Resource/Intervention Group (RIG) unit. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by providing tailored support in a structured and nurturing environment.

The Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, supporting their academic, social, and emotional development. You will collaborate with the class teacher and SENCo to deliver targeted interventions and help create an inclusive and engaging learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Support pupils with communication, behaviour, and emotional regulation
  • Help create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Work closely with teaching staff and external professionals where required

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (essential)
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils
  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s development and wellbeing

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
