Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive specialist primary school in Bury. This exceptional setting caters for pupils aged 3-11 with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
This is more than just a Teaching Assistant role. It's an opportunity to help children build confidence, develop essential life skills, and reach milestones that truly change lives.
Your Impact
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play a key role in helping pupils access learning in a way that works for them. Working alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff, you'll help create engaging and personalised experiences that encourage every child to succeed.
No two days are ever the same, making this an incredibly rewarding and varied position.
What You'll Be Doing
✅ Providing 1:1 and small group support
✅ Assisting with personalised learning plans linked to EHCP outcomes
✅ Supporting pupils with communication through:
- PECS
- Makaton
- Visual timetables
- AAC devices and systems
✅ Encouraging independence, confidence and social interaction
✅ Delivering sensory, play-based and life-skills activities
✅ Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
✅ Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider school staff
✅ Promoting a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
✅ Assisting with personal care, feeding, toileting and mobility support where required
Who We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from individuals who are:
Passionate about SEND education
Patient, empathetic and resilient
Experienced in supporting children or young people with additional needs
Confident working with pupils with ASD, SLD and PMLD
Adaptable and proactive in a specialist education setting
Strong team players with excellent communication skills
Available for a full-time, long-term opportunity
⭐ Desirable Experience
While not essential, we'd love to hear from candidates with:
- Experience within a specialist school or SEND provision
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC or alternative communication methods
- Teaching Assistant qualifications or SEND-related training
- Experience supporting pupils with complex learning or physical needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
