Teaching Personnel are working with a Special School in Leeds who are seeking a teacher to join their team in January 2020.

Our client school caters for pupils aged 4-16 with complex Special Educational Needs. All pupils have a severe learning difficulty; many have an autism spectrum condition alongside their learning need.

We are seeking an experienced and qualified teacher who will be responsible for the learning, teaching and well-being of pupils with ASC and / or complex and severe learning difficulties on a full time basis.

The successful applicant will:

  • Plan and teach a range subjects across the curriculum aiming for all pupils to achieve their best and for them to make at least good progress
  • Be able to analyse and evaluate pupils learning and attainment effectively, including identifying and addressing additional impacts / barriers to learning
  • Ensure that there are opportunities for skills development – including developing communication skills, confidence, self-esteem, independence and inter-dependence
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, recognising the particular difficulties that can be experienced by pupils as well as the potential impact of previous and current life experiences
  • Be responsible for promoting positive pupil behaviour in accordance with the school’s Behaviour Policy
  • Ensure that pupils’ personal care needs are well provided for
  • Lead a team of teaching assistants to have maximum impact on learning at all times, across the full school day
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with parents/carers and a range of key professional staff

The ideal applicant will have experience of teaching pupils working below National Curriculum Levels (P Scales) and of differentiating teaching resources to meet the needs of SEN learners. You will be confident working in a communication rich environment and will ideally have experience or training in Intensive Interaction, Makaton, Team Teach and/or TEACHH approaches.

Essential Requirements:

  • Recognised Teaching Qualification (QTS)
  • Experience of working with children with ASC, learning difficulties and SEMH needs
  • To communicate enthusiasm towards teaching, learning and working with young people with special needs
  • Show an ability to, and demonstrate an understanding of the importance of motivating children, creating an outstanding working and learning atmosphere and promoting a positive attitude towards behaviour
  • To have an understanding of core subjects and how these can be worked with creatively to provide a relevant, creative and engaging curriculum offer for all pupils
  • The ability to integrate the use of technology to enhance day to day teaching and learning

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
