- Wealth of experience working with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
- Additional training in PECS, Team Teach and/or Moving and Handing desirable
- Excellent communication skills
We are currently looking for experienced teachers to work at our SEN schools in Harrogate to start as soon as possible with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff.
Our schools range from primary ages through to secondary with a range of SEN (including Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties and Speech and Language Delay). You will be required to support these pupils with education and reengaged them as fully a possible back in to the curriculum. Your role will include nurture and offer additional support with communication, including those pupils with a mechanical system of communication and PECS. You may also be required to use British Sign Language and/or Makaton, (a form of sign language for SEN pupils) so training in either of these would be beneficial.
You will have strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate with families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff, social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of meeting the social, emotional and mental health needs of young people with Special Educational Needs.
Experience or training in the following is also desirable:
• Picture Exchange Communication (PECS)
• Makaton or BSL (to any level)
• Autism Awareness/ASC Training
• Team Teach
• Moving and Handling
