SEN Behavioural Mentor
Job description
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Behavioural Mentor to support one of our specialist partner schools in the Nuneaton (CV11) area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs—particularly those who present with complex behaviour linked to SEMH, trauma, Autism, and other learning differences.
The school provides excellent training and continuous development opportunities, making it an ideal role for someone keen to build a long‑term career within SEND support.
About the Role
As an SEN Behavioural Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who experience social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. You will provide consistent, structured support to help learners regulate their emotions, make positive choices, and re‑engage with learning.
You will work across both classroom and pastoral environments, offering 1:1 intervention, small‑group SEMH support, and behaviour mentoring tailored to each pupil’s needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide targeted 1:1 behaviour mentoring to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation using trauma‑informed and therapeutic approaches.
- Deliver structured interventions focusing on self‑esteem, communication, resilience, and behaviour.
- Build trusting, safe relationships with pupils to encourage positive engagement.
- Support teachers in managing behaviour and maintaining a calm, purposeful learning environment.
- Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs, risk assessments, and behaviour plans.
- Use de‑escalation and positive behaviour support strategies consistently.
- Assist pupils during transitions, unstructured times, and off‑site activities.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about supporting children with SEMH and complex needs.
- Resilient, calm under pressure, and able to respond positively to challenging behaviour.
- Skilled at building strong, supportive relationships with young people.
- An excellent communicator with strong emotional intelligence.
- Proactive, adaptable, and confident working independently or as part of a team.
- Reflective and committed to ongoing professional learning.
Experience working with challenging behaviour, mental health, youth work, or social care is highly desirable.
Requirements
- Experience in behaviour support, youth work, or SEMH settings (preferred).
- Willingness to complete a DBS check (or provide an updated version).
- Two professional references.
- Proof of right to work in the UK.
