Job description

Teaching Personnel is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Higher Level Classroom Support (HLTA) to join one of our specialist education partner schools in the Nuneaton (CV11) area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner or confident cover supervisor who can lead learning, support pupils with additional needs, and work collaboratively with staff to deliver exceptional teaching and learning.

About the Role

As an HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will work with pupils with a wide range of SEND needs, including:

  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health)
  • ASD (Autism)
  • Learning Difficulties (LD)

You will deliver small‑group interventions, support whole‑class learning, cover lessons when required, and help create an inclusive, positive learning environment where pupils can flourish.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned learning activities to individuals, small groups, and whole classes in the teacher’s absence.
  • Support teachers with assessing, monitoring, and recording pupil progress.
  • Adapt resources and materials to meet the needs of pupils with diverse learning profiles.
  • Implement strategies from EHCPs and support plans to promote independence and progress.
  • Use specialist tools such as visual supports, sensory resources, and alternative communication systems.
  • Promote a calm, inclusive classroom environment.
  • Provide behaviour support using positive and proactive strategies.
  • Assist pupils during transitions, break times, and off‑site activities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and wider staff teams.

  • Reflective and committed to their own professional development.

Requirements

  • HLTA qualification or substantial experience leading learning / covering lessons.
  • Willingness to complete a DBS check (or provide an updated version).
  • Two professional references.
  • Proof of right to work in the UK.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
