Job Opportunity: Special Needs Learning Support Assistant based in Portsmouth
Are you interested in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Teaching Personnel are looking for Learning Support Assistants to work with SEN students in the Portsmouth area.
The Role:
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant (TA), you will work closely with students who have additional learning needs, providing tailored support to help them achieve their academic potential and develop vital life skills. You will assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that every child feels safe, valued, and supported throughout their learning journey.
Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with SEN and SEMH needs.

Support the delivery of personalised learning plans for individual pupils.

Support students with managing their emotions, behaviour, and social interactions.
-
Help students with daily routines, learning activities, and communication.
-
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other staff members to develop effective strategies.

Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that supports individual needs.

Monitor and track progress, offering constructive feedback to students and staff.
What We’re Looking For:

Previous experience working with children with SEN and/or SEMH is highly desirable.

A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners and making a positive impact.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.

Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the varying needs of students.
-
A flexible and proactive approach to supporting the development of students.
-
Relevant qualifications (e.g., TA qualification, SEN training) would be an advantage.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
