Primary SEN Assistant

At Teaching Personnel, we are seeking dedicated Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to work in a Primary SEN school in the Portsmouth area.

We work in partnership with a range of inclusive schools that regularly require additional support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This includes providing short-term cover for staff absences as well as fulfilling long-term and permanent recruitment needs.

As an LSA with Teaching Personnel, you will play a key role in supporting the learning, development, and emotional wellbeing of children who may have a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, communication difficulties, or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Support individual pupils or small groups within the classroom under the direction of the class teacher or SENCO.

• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet each child’s unique needs and learning style.

• Foster positive relationships and encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, and resilience.

• Support the teacher in implementing behaviour strategies and maintaining a positive learning environment.

• Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and outside agencies to ensure continuity of care and support.

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting children or young people in education, care, medical, or youth work settings.

• A genuine passion for helping children with additional needs thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

• An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one

• The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching staff and SEN professionals.

• Availability to start immediately or at short notice.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
