SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Darwen
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Pay: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour

Are you patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to learning? We are seeking an SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to work in a Secondary Alternative Provision in Darwen. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine impact on the lives of students who need a different approach to education.

About the Provision:

Alternative Provisions provide tailored education for young people who are unable to access mainstream schooling. Many of the students have social, emotional or mental health needs, and may display challenging behaviour. The focus is on building trust, consistency, and helping pupils re-engage with their education in a supportive and structured environment.

About the Role:

  • Support students on a one-to-one and small group basis

  • Assist with emotional regulation, behaviour support and learning activities

  • Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams

  • Promote positive relationships, self-confidence and resilience in pupils

  • Help create a calm, safe and respectful learning space

Who This Role Will Suit:

This position is ideal for someone who:

  • Is calm, consistent and empathetic

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour

  • Can manage difficult situations with confidence and professionalism

  • Has a background in education, youth work, mental health or care (desirable)

  • Is committed to making a difference in an alternative education setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
