Location: Darwen
Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: ASAP
Are you passionate about supporting young people who face significant challenges in education? We are looking for a committed and resilient Learning Mentor to join a specialist secondary alternative provision in Darwen.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who present with complex and challenging behaviours, helping them to re-engage with learning and build positive relationships within a supportive, structured environment.
About the Role:
As a Learning Mentor, you will support students who may struggle to access mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or social barriers. You will work both one-to-one and in small groups to build trust, develop self-esteem, and support personal and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities:

Build strong, consistent relationships with students to promote positive behaviour and engagement

Support students with emotional regulation, behavioural strategies, and conflict resolution

Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to deliver tailored interventions

Assist in developing behaviour and support plans based on individual needs

Create a safe and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and understood

Monitor student progress and maintain clear, confidential records

Encourage a sense of achievement, responsibility, and self-worth in each student
About You:

Experience working with children or young people with additional or behavioural needs
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
-
The ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in a challenging environment

A resilient and empathetic approach to behaviour management
-
A background in youth work, mentoring, education, or similar settings is desirable

A genuine passion for helping young people succeed

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
