Science Tutor

Job description

Teaching Personnel are looking for Science Tutors to work on a 1:1 basis with pupils who don't currently have a school place. Most of these pupils are in care settings - either residential placements or foster homes. The sessions will take place predominantly during the school day and can be flexible working hours dependent on the student's needs.

The students are all working at different ability levels so we require tutors who can confidently differentiate across the GCSE Science Curriculum (General Science or individual specialisms in Biology, Chemistry or Physics). Tutors will need to plan and deliver all of their work independently, whilst keeping track of the student's progress with a clear weekly feedback report which is to be sent through to the Local Authority directly.

The ideal candidate for this role will be:

  • An experienced tutor who has worked either with students on a 1:1 basis or who has delivered small group intervention
  • Tutor with proven track record of increasing academic attainment levels for students
  • Confident to manage challenging behaviour and manage anxiety for vulnerable pupils
  • Someone who works professionally at all times and is able to liaise with foster carers, residential staff and social workers where required
  • Someone who is confident and experienced at dealing with safeguarding concerns and following lone working policies and procedures as priority
  • A Teacher with a patient, nurturing approach who ideally has experience working with SEN, in particular, with SEMH, ASC and Anxiety
