Science Technician - North Shields

Teaching Personnel are seeking to recruit a Science Technician to provide technical support to the Science Department of a client school. Duties will include preparing materials and resources for lessons, setting up equipment for practical sessions and assisting teaching staff with practical and examination work.

The successful candidate will have Level 2 qualifications in English and math's, and experience of working in a school is desirable. Most important is the ability to be able to work independently and in a team, have initiative, and good organisational skills.

The school is easily accessible by all major road from Newcastle and prides itself on its caring and inclusive ethos.

The role will include but not be limited to the following:

1. Work with the senior technician to organise apparatus and resources prior to lessons, including the construction, preparation and checking of any specialist equipment.
2. Assist with the duties of absent colleagues and ensure work left by absent teachers is delivered to the classrooms, as well as any other resources prior to the start of the lesson.
3. Provide support in lessons where applicable.
4. Assist with managing the storage and replacement of resources required for the delivery of Science.
5. Assist teaching staff as required in the demonstration of practical work.
6. Ensure the safety of equipment, laboratories and preparation areas. This includes:

• Annual testing of science apparatus
• Daily visual checks of gas, electricity and water supplies and turning them off at the end of each day.
• Safe storage of hazardous apparatus.
• Monitoring and maintenance of hazardous sources.

1. Assist with maintaining accurate inventories of departmental resources.
2. Assess future stock requirements and liaise with the Senior Technican to ensure departmental resources and stationery are stocked.
3. Working alongside the Senior Technican to carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs within the department and to liaise with the Site Manager regarding more serious maintenance issues.
4. Clean and remove apparatus at the end of each lesson.
5. Review and re-organise the storage of apparatus on a regular basis.
