We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Safeguarding Officer to join a dynamic secondary school in Thornaby. This is a crucial role within the school, where you will be responsible for supporting and strengthening safeguarding practices to ensure the highest standards of student welfare.
The Role
As Safeguarding Officer, you will work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and wider school team to identify, assess, and respond to safeguarding concerns. You will play a key role in promoting a culture of vigilance and ensuring safeguarding policies are consistently implemented.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and respond effectively to safeguarding concerns
- Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies to support students
- Support or deputise for the DSL and Deputy DSL when required
- Maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding records
- Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate interventions
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to staff on safeguarding matters
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
Requirements
- Significant experience working in safeguarding, including managing concerns and interventions
- Strong working knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures (Level 3 standard)
- Experience in a DSL, Deputy DSL, or equivalent safeguarding role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
- A proactive, compassionate, and resilient approach
Essential
- Level 3 Safeguarding training or equivalent
- Enhanced DBS on the Child Workforce (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable
- Additional safeguarding qualifications or training
- Experience within a secondary school or similar setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
