Graduate Teaching Assistant
Job description
Graduate Teaching Assistant – Durham (DH1) Secondary Schools
Teaching Personnel is recruiting a graduate — or final year undergraduate — looking to take their first step into education, with placements available across secondary schools in Durham City from September 2026.
If you've recently completed your degree and you're thinking about teaching, educational psychology, SEND, or any other career in education, working as a Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor is one of the best ways to find out if it's right for you. You'll be in the classroom from day one, working alongside experienced teachers and support staff, building the kind of practical knowledge that no postgraduate course can replicate.
Final year undergraduates with a confirmed graduation date are also welcome to apply.
What the role involves:
- Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 in a secondary school setting
- Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and student engagement
- Working with students on a 1:1 or small group basis where needed
- Supervising classes and delivering pre-set work (Cover Supervisor duties)
- Contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment
What we're looking for:
- A degree in any discipline, or a confirmed undergraduate in your final year
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with young people
- Confidence, adaptability, and strong communication skills
- A professional and reliable approach
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
What Teaching Personnel offers:
- Competitive daily rates
- Weekly pay via PAYE
- Dedicated consultant support
- Free CPD and training to support your development
- A clear pathway into teaching or permanent support roles
Contract: Long-term | Start: September 2026 | Location: Durham City secondary schools
