Job description

Experienced Teaching Assistant – Durham Secondary Schools

ASAP start, competitive rates, perfect for TAs wanting new schools or a better agency.

I'm recruiting experienced Teaching Assistants for secondary schools across Durham. If you're currently working through another agency and fancy trying some new schools, or if you're looking for an agency that actually supports you properly, let's talk.

I work with a range of Durham secondary schools – mainstream and SEND settings – and I'm honest about what each one is like. No surprises, no being sent somewhere unsuitable. You tell me what you want, I'll match you with schools that fit.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 in various subjects
  • Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Working with students who have SEND, including ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties
  • Assisting teachers with classroom management and differentiation
  • Building positive relationships with students who need consistent support
  • Contributing to inclusive learning environments

You'll need:

  • Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant in secondary schools
  • Understanding of SEND and how to support diverse learners
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Confidence working with challenging behaviour
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service
  • Level 3 qualification desirable but not essential if you've got solid experience

What you actually get with Teaching Personnel:

  • Competitive daily rates that reflect your experience
  • Weekly pay via PAYE (no umbrella company nonsense)
  • Honest information about schools before you accept bookings
  • Support from me as your dedicated consultant (I actually answer my phone)
  • Access to free CPD and SEND training
  • Opportunities for long-term and permanent positions
  • Flexibility to choose which schools you work in

Look, if you're with another agency and they're sending you to schools blind, not paying you properly, or just generally treating you like a number, come and talk to me. I've been doing this long enough to know that experienced TAs deserve better. I'll find you schools where you're valued and I'll be straight with you about what each placement involves.

Contract: Flexible (full-time or part-time)
Start: ASAP
Location: Durham secondary schools

Send me your CV or call me on 0191 223 5071. Let's have an honest conversation about what you're looking for and how I can help.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
