Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Job description

Teaching Personnel are proud to be working exclusively with a Primary school in Southampton (SO19) who are seeking a full time Teaching Assistants to start ASAP. The school caters for pupils aged 2-11 with severe, profound and complex learning needs. Some pupils also have additional sensory, physical, medical, social or emotional needs.

You will be required to support pupils in Key stage 1 and 2 who work in line with the EYFS framework, you will support pupils’ development towards Early Learning Goals within a continuous provision environment. As well as supporting access to activities such as Phonics, Literacy and Numeracy you will also facilitate activities designed to develop pupils’ emerging skills in communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development.

As an experienced Teaching Assistant, you will have a firm understanding of working within EYFS and will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of:

  • Child development, both the biological and cultural aspects, and its impact on how learning may best be supported
  • Planning which ensures a relevant, motivating, flexible and interesting curriculum
  • Provision of an environment which truly enables successful learning by all children

In addition to supporting pupils within Key stages 1 and 2, you may also be required to support pupils in EYFS who may require support in. Due to the complex nature of pupil needs, you will also provide personal care.

The successful applicant will have at least 6 months experience within a Nursery setting and may also have additional qualifications in Childcare and Education (i.e. CACHE or BTEC National Diploma).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
