Job description

The school based on the Hampshire/West Sussex boarder is seeking to recruit a Teacher of Drama to start in September on a 1 year fixed term contract. They have capacity to support an NQT and would encourage any NQTs who are concerned about the impact of securing their first post due to not being able to complete their final placements to apply. The team is managed by a well respected and experienced colleague and the school has a desirable NQT programme. More often than NQT student teachers who train here, apply to complete their NQT at this school.
The school is considered to be a ‘good’ school led by a head that has ‘set a clear and ambitious vision to improve standards further’. The school has a real sense of community and positive working relationships between staff and pupils help to keep pupils safe, develop their personal skills and promote good achievement.
The Drama department is guided by the National Curriculum and aim to use Drama as a learning medium for understanding of self, other people and society and to encourage respect and diversity of culture and belief. They also believe it can encourage language development, powers of spoken and written evaluation and imaginative response to a variety of stimuli. They aim to develop expressive movement, confidence in the use of drama conventions, powers of investigation and research and confidence in communication. They are looking for an enthusiastic individual who share these aims and commitments.
Drama is a popular & highly successful choice at GCSE at this school. The department follows the Edexcel GCSE Drama syllabus and they currently look at Blood brother by Willy Russell
The department runs a Drama club every Thursday after school open to students from years 7-9; students are encouraged to express themselves and develop their skills whilst gaining more performance experience. In addition to this, there are many other opportunities for students to further their performance experience with a highlight being the annual school musical. They are keen for pupils to experience live performances and regularly organise trips to theatres to see professional shows from Chichester Festival Theatre to the West End. As an NQT at this school, you will have opportunity to contribute new ideas and concepts to support their extra curricular programme and are encouraged to fully immerse yourself.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
