Job Title: Learning Support Practitioner (Physical and Medical Needs)
Location: Northampton
Salary: £30,715 - £33,949 pa pro-rata (actual salary £27,211 - £30,076)
Role Overview:
In this vital role, you will oversee the personal care and medical support needs of students, ensuring comprehensive care plans are in place and effectively delivered. You will lead and support Teaching Assistants with personal care duties, coordinate risk assessments, and provide training in safe moving and handling, medication awareness, and more. Your work will help students with physical disabilities, epilepsy, diabetes, anaphylaxis, and other medical conditions to fully engage with their learning experience and achieve greater independence.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and supervise Teaching Assistants with personal care duties across the campus.

Assess students’ physical and medical needs, develop and review individual care and risk plans.

Liaise with health professionals and internal teams to ensure smooth transitions and support.

Deliver and coordinate training in manual handling and medication awareness for staff.

Oversee equipment maintenance and compliance with safety regulations.

Chair annual EHCP reviews for assigned students.
-
Provide one-on-one and small group support to encourage student independence.

Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:

GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent, or willingness to obtain.

Experience working with young people with physical and medical needs.
-
Ability to assess individual needs and implement effective support strategies.
-
Strong communication and IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
-
Understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and data protection principles.
Desirable Qualifications:

Level 2 SEND qualification or willingness to obtain.
-
Level 3 Safe Moving & Handling Train the Trainer qualification or willingness to work towards.
-
Level 3 Medication Awareness Train the Trainer qualification or willingness to work towards.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
