Individual Needs Assistant

A primary school in Eastbourne are looking for an Individual Needs Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil with Autism. This role will begin in September and has the potential to go permanent for the right candidate; experience working with autistic children is essential.

This role is incredibly rewarding, you will be supported by an excellent SENCO and Class Teacher and will have access to various resources to assist you in your role.

Role Responsibilities:

• Assisting the pupil on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day at all times, including a lunch duty.
• Helping the pupil to interact with peers in the classroom and on the playground, encouraging play and managing behaviour
• Supporting the pupil both academically and emotionally; making use of the school's sensory room and other resources to help reduce overwhelming situations
• Communicating with the SENCO and Class Teacher, managing progress with learning and behaviour and working together to help the pupil achieve their goals.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

• A genuine passion for working with children who have special educational needs
• Experience working with children who have autism
• A calm and patient nature with the ability to empathise with the pupil and understand what they are feeling
• Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and good behaviour management skills
• A positive attitude with a creative approach to learning

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
