Job description

We are seeking an exceptional Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) to lead our dynamic MFL department from September. The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader with a passion for languages education, capable of driving excellence in teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the MFL department, inspiring colleagues to deliver outstanding language education.
  • Lead curriculum development and innovation, ensuring that schemes of work are engaging, relevant, and aligned with national standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department, providing support and guidance to colleagues to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and professional development within the department, promoting sharing of best practices and ongoing training opportunities.
  • Oversee the assessment and tracking of student progress, implementing intervention strategies to support the achievement of all learners.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant teaching qualification.
  • A degree in a Modern Foreign Language or related field is essential, with strong subject knowledge across at least one language (e.g., French or Spanish).
  • Proven experience of teaching MFL at Key Stages 3, 4, and ideally 5, with a track record of achieving excellent outcomes for students.
  • Leadership experience within a languages department or similar educational setting, with the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
