The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant specializing in PMLD support, you will play a crucial role in providing personalized assistance to students with complex learning needs. Working closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and classroom teachers, your responsibilities will include:

  • Offering one-on-one support to students with PMLD, assisting with their academic, personal care, and social development needs.
  • Implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and sensory integration strategies to support student learning and engagement.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, including therapists and healthcare professionals, to ensure holistic support for students' well-being.
  • Creating a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing regular feedback to teachers and parents/carers to support ongoing development.

Requirements:

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working with students with profound and multiple learning difficulties, preferably within an educational setting.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting individuals with complex needs, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of sensory integration techniques and strategies for promoting communication, mobility, and independence.
  • Flexibility, patience, and resilience in responding to the diverse needs and challenges of students with PMLD.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education or disability support (desirable but not essential).
