Graduate Teaching Assistant – Manchester
Have you recently graduated from university or in your final year of study and considering a career in secondary teaching or applying for a PGCE?
Teaching Personnel run a fantastic Future Teachers Programme which allows you not only to secure PAID employment as a Teaching Assistant, but it is a clear and concise pathway onto a school based initial teacher training programme (SCITT). This programme allows you to gain the necessary experience required to be confident and successful when you do decide to begin your teacher training.
This programme involves working as a Teaching Assistant for the remainder of the academic year (January 2020 to July 2020) within one of our fantastic client secondary schools close to the centre of Manchester, prior to considering a teacher training course.

- Placed at a fantastic and supportive secondary school located close to the centre of Manchester
- Opportunity to progress on to your teacher training through one of our client secondary schools SCITT programme from September 2020.
- Great opportunity to help you decide if teaching is the career for you and to gain a variety of classroom based experience
- Paid GBP285 a week!
As a Graduate Teaching Assist, you will support pupils in a range of areas and subjects (predominately your subject specialism). This will give you a good understanding as to what it would be like to be a teacher! A significant proportion of these tasks and activities will also benefit your subject knowledge as you will focus on raising pupil attainment, supporting special needs pupils, covering classes, assisting with planning, preparing lessons and developing schemes of work.
Responsibilities within the graduate teaching assistant role include providing;
- Supporting identified pupils in small groups who require additional support with the lesson material
- Cover Supervisor work where you will experience covering lessons and classroom management
- One to one specific tuition/interventions where you will utilise your subject knowledge to raise pupil attainment
- SEN support where you can work alongside pupils with Special Educational Needs
- Assistance with planning and preparation of lessons alongside teachers to upskill you in this area
