If you are graduate in search of experience in an OUTSTANDING school then read on for details of a role beginning immediately after schools return.

A primary school in Harrogate (HG1) are in need of a graduate TA to support learning in their Year 6 class from as soon as the children are back in school as normal. This would be a role provisionally until the October half-term – with a view to then being extended depending on success in the role. The school believe that the presence of a graduate Teaching Assistant in the classroom would improve attainment, and allow the class teacher more freedom to set more concentrated work for specific children in identified areas. Particularly, the school believe this could push the top end of the class sufficiently, as there has been an issue in challenging these children in the past.

The ideal candidate for this role would be a university graduate who sees their future in teaching, but would first like to begin in support roles to get used to the classroom environment and develop their experience. Most of this role will involve whole class work, and supporting the class teacher in their lesson plan to communicate as effectively as possible to as many students as possible. The role will also involve some small group intervention work, where you will be taking focused groups of lower attaining children to boost their learning, but also groups of higher attaining children in a bid to extend their learning even further. Any experience of taking these groups in KS2 – and particularly in preparation for SATs in the core areas (Reading, Writing and Maths) would be massively useful. Any previous tutoring work would also be valuable to school.

The school is a 1 form entry primary school that achieved OUTSTANDING at its last Ofsted in 2016. The school has greatly improved over the last 4 or 5 years in which the current Head has been there, and is looking to maintain this improvement over many more years. The school is an ideal place to work as a graduate as they have an emphasis on a young core staff and provide lots of opportunities to people who see their future in education and particularly teaching. This means that should the chosen candidate get on well in this role, the school are likely to want the person to stay on in some capacity and develop their role even further.
