Year 1 Teacher
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
A school in Horsforth (LS17) have been in touch with Teaching Personnel as they require a Year 1 teacher until Christmas 2020. As the current class teacher is off on maternity leave the school have organised a job sharing arrangement with the Deputy. This means from the school’s return date they will need someone to teach the class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday (AM only). The school is easily commutable by car or public transport; it is also relatively small in size as it is only 1 form entry throughout the school from Reception to Year 6. The Headteacher has been at the school for 5 years, in which time they have always been rated as GOOD by Ofsted, of which the last one was 2017. The Head has achieved this by maintaining high behavioural standards in the school, meaning that the working environment for teachers is very pleasant and manageable. The staff in the school will provide a strong support base for any new arrival, as a large amount of the staff have been at the school for a number of years.
What the SLT are looking for…
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- Classroom experience in Year 1
- Able to travel to LS17
- Available to start after Easter (if necessary)
The main priority with this appointment from the school’s perspective is to get someone with experience of teaching Year 1 Phonics, as this is the primary way the progress of the children in this year group are tracked. The school currently use the Jolly Phonics programme, so any experience specifically with this programme would of course be incredibly valuable to the school, although experience with any equivalent programme would also be very useful. Other than this, the school are open-minded about who they would consider for the role, and are happy to accept NQTs as well as more experienced teachers for the role provided they have some experience of Phonics. As the school is aiming for OUTSTANDING, maintaining high results and particularly boosting the attainment of the lowest achieving children is very important to the school. Therefore, any evidence of strong progress levels and boosting attainment in assessed year groups would also be well received by the SLT.
