Job Description:
We are recruiting for experienced Exam Invigilators to join our team at a large secondary school in Ellesmere Port. The role involves assisting in the supervision and administration of public and internal exams, ensuring that they run smoothly and according to the regulations.
As an Exam Invigilator, you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the examination process while supporting students in a professional and calm manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting up exam rooms: Ensure that the room is set up in accordance with exam regulations, including placing exam papers and ensuring that all necessary materials are available.
- Supervising exams: Ensure that all students are in the correct exam room, follow the rules, and work in a quiet and focused manner.
- Monitoring students: Maintain vigilant supervision to prevent cheating, provide assistance to students where needed, and ensure adherence to school and exam board policies.
- Checking identification: Verify student identities and ensure that students are seated according to seating plans.
- Handling exam papers: Ensure that exam papers are distributed and collected securely and that all completed papers are returned to the appropriate authorities.
- Following procedures: Adhere strictly to exam procedures and health and safety protocols as outlined by the school and exam boards.
- Managing emergencies: Remain calm and follow the appropriate protocol in the event of emergencies, disruptions, or other unexpected situations.
- Reporting any issues: Communicate any irregularities, incidents, or breaches of exam protocol to the Head of Exams or other relevant school staff.
Requirements:
- Previous Experience: Essential. Experience in invigilating public or internal exams in a secondary school or similar setting.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure that all regulations are followed, and any irregularities are identified promptly.
- Strong Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication with both students and staff is essential.
- Reliability: Punctuality and dependability are crucial, as exams must run according to a strict timetable.
- Calm Demeanour: Ability to stay calm and professional, even in stressful or disruptive situations.
- Understanding of Exam Protocols: Familiarity with current exam regulations and procedures, including knowledge of what is and isn’t allowed during exams.
- Flexibility: Availability to work during peak exam periods (May-July), but also throughout the academic year when required.
- Enhanced DBS Check: A current, enhanced DBS check is required. If you don’t have one, we can assist in processing it.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience working in an educational environment: Working with young people in a secondary school setting is advantageous.
- Organisation Skills: Ability to manage time effectively and ensure exams are run smoothly from start to finish.
