-Deliver in depth Interventions to small groups of children in Maths and English
-Use your phonic knowledge to support children with EAL
-Work across all Key Stages in school
A fantastic opportunity has opened at a lovely Primary School located in Blackburn (BB1). They are looking to employ an experienced, passionate and dedicated EAL Support Assistant to work across all Key Stages to deliver interventions to small groups of children who speak basic English. Due to the school having a high amount of children with English as an Additional Language, the need for more support has increased over the past term. The role includes taking out small groups of children and deliver short activities to help EAL children grasp the English Language in order to help them raise attainment.
The position is full time Monday to Friday and the Head Teacher has stressed that the Practitioner must have had relevant Phonics training e.g.; Jolly Phonics, Read Write Inc., Letters and Sounds, SEEMA Language Training. Multilingual capabilities would also be an excellent and resourceful contributing factor to your success if this is something you acquire. You will have a structured timetable to allocate which year group you will be working with throughout each day. So experience working across all Key Stages is crucial.
The School itself is a small one form entry School, and was recently graded 'Good' by Ofsted in 2015. The pupils who attend are predominantly from Asian heritage and the school often have INA (International New Arrivals) children joining the school. Due to this, the Head Teacher wants an experienced Practitioner with at least 3 years or more experience working with children who have English as an Additional Language. The Head Teacher has described the school as 'warm and welcoming' but often 'faces challenging behaviour', due to this, she would like a Support Assistant who has excellent behaviour management and is familiar with current behaviour policies. The Head Teacher said the facilities are 'Fantastic' and ensures that all aids are in place in order to support the children.
The salary is based on a 6.5 hour position held in the mornings, Monday to Friday, and depending on experience, this could vary between £8.40-£10.50 per hour.
If this seems like the ideal and suitable job for you then do not hesitate to call our office on 01772 842154 or feel free to email over an up to date CV
