Job Description: Classroom Support Assistant (Pupil Referral Unit)

Job Title: Classroom Support Assistant

Location: Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) (LA1)

Reports to: Class Teacher / Senior Leadership Team

Salary: £13.75 - £14 

Contract: Full-time / Term-time only

 

Job Description: 

To support the teaching and learning of pupils who have been referred to the PRU, many of whom may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural difficulties, or require additional support to access education. The role involves helping to create a safe, positive, and structured learning environment where pupils can re-engage with learning and make academic and personal progress. 

 

Requirements:

 

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with challenging pupils.

  • Calm, resilient, and able to de-escalate difficult situations.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Flexible, patient, and solution-focused.

Desirable: 

  • Experience in PRUs, alternative provision, or SEN settings.

  • Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour support approaches.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
