Job description

Teaching Personnel is excited to present a new opportunity with one of our partner Primary Schools in St John's Wood for a Teaching Assistant with SEN experience. The role will involve the support of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder as they move in to Year 1. As the needs of the child develop, the school are looking to split the support between two people so that the child has the 1:1 support they need at all times. The successful candidate will split their time between providing this support in the morning and general support to the Reception class in the afternoons. The child has little to no language so knowledge of non-verbal communication techniques (e.g. PECS, Makaton) will be essential.

This two-form entry Primary School is idyllically located a short walk from The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill and conveniently situated just 5 minutes from St John's Wood Station (Jubilee Line) and South Hampstead Rail Station (Overground). They have a strong emphasis on creating an inclusive and welcoming environment with a commitment to providing a high quality education for all students. At its last Ofsted inspection it was graded 'Outstanding' and is currently awaiting the results of its more recent inspection just last week.

The school has an innovative curriculum and pupils find the lessons fun and interesting and as such have very positive attitudes to learning. You will be joining a great team that are able to generate really high levels of enthusiasm from the pupils while maintaining excellent behaviour. The school's leaders are passionate about the school and all the staff share high aspirations.

There is a good focus on professional development with staff well informed of current innovations in education. The school is well resourced and the facilities are state of the art. If this school sounds like the right environment for you, the school are looking to interview as soon as possible. Criteria for shortlisting include:

  • A solid knowledge of SEN
  • Understanding of non-verbal communication techniques (e.g. PECS, Makaton)
  • A friendly personality!
