Job Title: Assistant Head
Job Location: Reading, Berkshire
Job Type: Full time, Permanent
Job Salary: £60,488 - £66,628 per annum
Teaching Personnel Permanent Workforce are currently working alongside an SEN Secondary School in Berkshire who are actively seeking an Assistant Head to join their team from September 2024. We are looking for passionate and ambitious individuals who can work alongside the existing leader to create a safe and encouraging environment for their students to learn and flourish. This role would suit someone who is an experienced leader and is agile and proactive. We would love to hear from applicants who are passionate about working with young people who need support to make a positive change. There are areas of the school that require a strong leader to drive the rapid improvements that have started to be put into place.
Responsibilities:
- Providing an environment for teaching and learning that empowers both pupils and staff to achieve their fullest potential.
- Supporting staff training and development in line with the whole school development plan.
- Have an overview of behaviours that challenge , devising strategies or linking with other staff to effectively reduce it’s impact.
- Supporting the Head of School in maintaining and developing high standards of teaching and learning across all areas of the curriculum, through participation in learning walks, lesson observations, appraisal processes, work scrutiny, planning monitoring, data analysis and monitoring of outcomes-inputting into improvement planning processes.
- Leading on understanding progression, possible accreditation pathways, provision mapping and curriculum development across all areas of responsibility
- Leading in transitions and transition planning – whether that be transitioning in to school, from class to class ( each academic year) From Key stage to Key stage ( moving buildings) or post 16 pathways and careers education e.g. moving to Collage.
- Leading in the absence of the Head of School and to the extent required by the Governing Body, the professional duties of the Head of School including the deployment of staff to ensure their effective contribution to pupil learning
- Teaching a percentage of the curriculum – modelling best ASC practice and achieving outcomes for young people.
Requirements:
- Experience of line management or leadership (Head of Department, SLT experience, Headteacher etc.)
- A degree in your chosen subject and QTS, QTLS or an overseas equivalent.
- A proven track record of raising attainment.
- A proven track record of compliance against policy, process, and standards.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
