Job description

Are you passionate about sport and its power to change lives? Do you have the compassion, resilience, and emotional intelligence to support young people who have experienced trauma? Are you looking for a new challenge for September?

We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Sports Coach to join a unique school community. The setting supports children and young people with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) needs — many of whom have experienced significant trauma in their lives.

About the School

The school takes a holistic approach to education, focusing on the whole child, not just academic outcomes. They create a nurturing, structured, and emotionally supportive environment where students are encouraged to rebuild trust, gain confidence, and achieve their potential.

The Role

At Teaching Personnel, we have seen first-hand how sports coaches can build powerful relationships with students. Your role will go far beyond physical activity — you’ll be a mentor, a motivator, and a consistent, positive adult presence. You will:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, many of whom may struggle with authority or traditional education
  • Work as part of a trauma-informed, multi-disciplinary team to support pupils’ well-being and personal growth
  • Use sport to promote resilience, teamwork, emotional regulation, and self-esteem
  • Help foster a safe, fun, and respectful environment where every student feels seen and valued

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people, ideally those with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
  • Understands the impact of trauma on learning and behaviour
  • Is calm, consistent, and able to set clear boundaries
  • Can inspire students to engage in physical activity as a tool for healing and growth
  • Holds a recognised coaching qualification (or equivalent experience)

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
