Job description

Graduate opportunity to gain experience working within a secondary school prior to beginning a PGCE or alternative teacher training programme in the future.

Due to an increase in cover requirements at this secondary school based in Rochdale, they wish to appoint additional cover staff to alleviate absence pressures and provide consistent learning to their pupils.

As an Unqualified Teacher you will take on the role of a teacher, without the responsibility of planning lessons or marking. Within this role you will be provided with pre-set work and be expected to ensure pupils complete work without causing disruption in the absence of their normal class teacher.

Applicants are required to be educated to degree level and ideally hold previous experience working within a secondary school or a relatable educational experience working with pupils aged 11-16.  

  • Unqualified Teacher – Covering a range of classes across all secondary curriculum areas
  • Temporary contact 5 days per week in the New Year until the end of the academic year (July 2020)
  • Full support and training provided to ensure you are upskilled prior to beginning this position
  • Earn up to GBP1200 per month

As an Unqualified Teacher you will be required to be a confident and outgoing individual who is keen to pursue a career in education in the future.

The ideal applicant will be a graduate who is able to build strong rapport with pupils in order to ensure pupil behaviour within lessons is appropriate and work is completed to the necessary standard. One of your main responsibilities within this Unqualified Teacher role will be to make sure that all students remain engaged within the lesson and are on task and completing the pre-set work left by the pupil’s normal class teacher.

The role of an Unqualified Teacher is to deliver work across a range of subjects including Maths, English, Science and PE to students within a classroom setting. You will also be required to deliver tuition sessions in identified subjects that pupils aren’t making expected progress in. This will be in small groups or on a 1:1 basis, to enhance their learning and development prior to summer examinations.

This school is located on the outskirts of Rochdale town centre and is easily accessible via public transport. For those with their own transport, it is a short drive from the M62 and the school has on site parking. Graded Good by Ofsted, the school has an excellent management team in place and you will learn on the job under the guidance of experienced and competent teachers.  This is the perfect opportunity to enhance your own learning, confidence and teaching ability within this role and it is the ideal step towards applying for a teacher training course in the future.
