SEN Teaching Assistant - Peckham

An SEN school with a Primary and Secondary site, based in Peckham are currently looking for SEN Teaching Assistants for a long term position as well as day-to-day work to cover absences. The roles are to start ASAP (January 2019).

About the school:

This school is a thriving two form entry Church of England Primary school, located on the borders of East Dulwich and Peckham Rye (Zone 2). It currently has a 'Good' grading by Ofsted and aims to serve our community by providing a first-class education within a Christian context. As a Church school, the staff endeavour to build the school on their core values of justice, honesty, respect, co-operation and responsibility. Candidates should be willing to commit to the Christian ethos of the school.

This ASD and Hearing impairment school offers a holistic curriculum and child centred approach to learning which is based on their academic and emotional need, with therapies such as play, music as well as cognitive behavioural to help them improve their conduct and ability to learn.

Purpose of the position:

To support pupils who have been referred to the School with ASD and/or hearing impairments.

Main duties

  • To be responsible for carrying out planned programmes of intervention with pupil(s) of primary school age, both in the classroom and in the playground.
  • To carry out specified activities with either small groups or individual pupils after discussion and planning with Line Manager. This will be set out in individual partnership plan.
  • To help pupils in the areas of literacy, numeracy and social skills development.
  • To accompany pupils on day trips as required in agreement with school staff and the Head teacher.
  • To liaise with main stream school staff on general welfare and behaviour matters as appropriate in accordance with the school's policy.
  • To carry out systematic observation of pupils, record observations and keep up to date records and contribute to planning and appropriate strategies based on these observations.
  • To participate in case conferences and/or attend pastoral support programme meetings, as appropriate.
  • To actively participate in whole school discussions about strategies and methods of intervention.
  • To participate in whole school training as appropriate.
  • To promote the Council's Equal Opportunities policies in a manner compatible with the duties of the post.
  • In discharging the duties of the post to have due regard to the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work legislation.
