Teaching Assistant – Provision Unit Support – Greater Manchester

Make a real difference supporting vulnerable students in a specialist provision unit.

Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to work within a provision unit in a secondary school in Greater Manchester. This is a vital role supporting students with additional needs, behavioural challenges, or SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, requiring patience, understanding, and a wealth of experience.

The role includes:

• Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with complex needs

• Assisting teaching staff in delivering differentiated learning activities

• Supporting behaviour management and helping students develop positive social skills

• Liaising with SENCOs, teachers, and other professionals to implement personalised support plans

• Preparing learning resources and adapting materials to meet individual needs

• Supervising students during breaks, transitions, and other activities to ensure safety and wellbeing

• Contributing to record keeping, monitoring progress, and supporting intervention programmes

What we’re looking for:

• At least 1 full year of school-based experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role

• Experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural difficulties is essential

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students and staff

• Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations

• Understanding of safeguarding practices and the importance of confidentiality

• A flexible, proactive approach and willingness to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
