EAL Teaching Assistant – Secondary School – Manchester

Pay: £89 – £95 per day

Are you passionate about helping young people from diverse linguistic backgrounds thrive in school? A well-established secondary school in Manchester is looking for a dedicated EAL Teaching Assistant to provide essential support for pupils whose first language is not English.

This role offers the chance to work closely with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds, helping them overcome language barriers and build confidence in their communication skills. You will play a vital part in ensuring these pupils access the full curriculum and engage positively with their peers and teachers.

Responsibilities:

• Delivering targeted one-to-one and small group support to improve pupils’ English language skills across speaking, listening, reading, and writing

• Assisting pupils during mainstream lessons to help them understand instructions, tasks, and subject content

• Developing and adapting learning materials and resources tailored to EAL pupils’ needs

• Supporting pupils’ social integration and cultural adjustment to the school environment

• Collaborating closely with subject teachers, SENCO, and pastoral staff to monitor and assess progress and wellbeing

• Participating in school-wide initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion and diversity

• Keeping detailed records of interventions and reporting outcomes regularly

Candidate Profile:

• Experience working with young people, ideally in a school or language support context

• Knowledge of challenges faced by EAL pupils and strategies to support language acquisition

• Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity

• Patient, adaptable, and confident in building trusting relationships

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

• Willingness to undertake further training in EAL teaching strategies and safeguarding

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
