The Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the educational and emotional development of students with SEMH needs. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom.
- Assisting classroom teachers in planning and delivering engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of students.
- Supporting students in developing coping strategies, social skills, and emotional resilience.
- Implementing behavior management strategies and interventions to support positive behavior and manage challenging situations.
- Building positive relationships with students, families, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students with SEMH needs.
- Collaborating with the SENCO and other support staff to develop and implement individualized support plans for students.
Requirements:
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and colleagues.
- A proactive and solution-focused mindset, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- A commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and diversity within the school community.
