We are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant for a school in Christchurch. The school offers an exciting alternative approach to educating children and help shape and deliver a creative, dynamic curriculum designed to engage and excite children who have struggled to thrive in mainstream schools. Many of the learners have huge potential however need to reassurance and support that a 1:1 can provide. The learners benefit from shorter lessons to help stay focused and achieve. The schools ethos is that they make the provision fit the child and not the child fit the provision.

The school is an independent school specialising for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) barriers to learning. It is a new school which opened in September 2019. They are a small school which currently caters for 30 pupils, and have opened a new site nearby for another 30 pupils.

The ideal candidate for this role would be:

  • A calm and patient practitioner
  • Professional or personal experience working with children and/or adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Dedicated and committed to making a real change in young people’s lives
  • Have some experience working with children in a school setting or similar 

Your role at the school would be to assist the class teacher and possibly support other TA’s in the room throughout the school day. Your main duties will include helping pupils with their work, assistance in group work activities, providing an alternative environment for the pupils to work to promote the pupils progress and help them reach their full potential.

What we expect from you:

  • A Child only DBS on the Update Service or a willingness to get one
  • Willingness to work between 08:30-15:30

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
