Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work in one of our SEN specialist schools in Christchurch, Dorset. The successful candidate will provide one-to-one and group support to children with special educational needs, ensuring that they have access to the same opportunities as their peers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing one-to-one and group support to children with SEN, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Helping to develop and adapt teaching resources to meet the needs of children with SEN.
  • Supporting children with SEN during break times and lunchtimes, ensuring that they have the support they need to participate fully in school life.
  • Providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCo on the progress and wellbeing of children with SEN.
  • Attending training and development opportunities to ensure that your knowledge and skills are up to date.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience of working with SEN either from a school based setting or other transferable role working with children or from the care sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient and empathetic approach to working with children with SEN.
  • Knowledge of different teaching strategies and approaches for children with SEN or a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with children with a range of needs, such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
