Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School (Preston)

Location: Preston
Contract Type: Full-time (term-time only)
Salary: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join the team at a specialist school in Preston that supports children and young people aged 2–19 with severe and profound learning difficulties, autism, sensory needs, and complex medical conditions.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a background in childcare, education, or support work who is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils’ learning across a range of abilities and needs, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to deliver tailored educational activities.
  • Assist pupils with personal care and medical needs, following individual care plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help develop pupils’ social and communication skills.
  • Provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in childcare, education, or support work.
  • A calm, patient, and flexible approach.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Experience in working with children or young people with SEND is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
