Start Date: September 2026 (earlier start available for the right candidate)
Overview
A specialist SEMH setting in Andover is seeking a committed and resilient SEN Teacher to join its supportive team. The role involves teaching pupils aged 4–16, primarily within the primary phase, with opportunities to support secondary-aged learners where appropriate.
You will teach small classes of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may also have additional learning difficulties and be working below age-related expectations. The setting offers a structured, nurturing, and therapeutic environment focused on supporting pupils academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver differentiated lessons to meet individual pupil needs

Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment

Support pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies

Adapt learning to support pupils working below age-related expectations

Build positive relationships that encourage engagement and progress

Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and external professionals
-
Monitor and assess pupil progress academically and emotionally
-
Support pupils’ wellbeing, resilience, and personal development

Small class sizes with high levels of adult support

Pupils aged 4–16 with SEMH and additional learning needs

Therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to behaviour and wellbeing

Supportive and collaborative staff team

Opportunities to work across both primary and secondary age groups
Person Specification
Essential:
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
-
Experience within a primary, SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision setting
-
Strong understanding of inclusive and adaptive teaching practices
-
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils displaying challenging behaviour
-
Calm, resilient, and flexible approach
Desirable:
-
Experience working in SEMH or specialist settings
-
Knowledge of trauma-informed or restorative practice
-
Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs or autism

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
